About Us

Welcome to Clearwater Ranch, home of the Davis Family. We are Dustin and Amanda Davis of Wapello, Idaho, a small community outside of Blackfoot, Id. We live on a 5 acre ranch with our two children Lori and Peyton, our dog, 2 horses and of course, our extended family of Boer Goats! We have been in the meat goat business for about 1.5 years now and feel like we have come a long way in the short amount of time we've been in it. We started out thinking we would have one or two bucks and a dozen or so does, well needless to say our herd has grown a little larger than that! At the present time we have 3 Boer Bucks and 18 Boer Does. Our daughter experienced her first year in 4-H and did rather well for a first timer and we are excited for the coming years to put forth all of the new information we learn along the way. Lori, our daughter who is 14, placed Reserve Grand Champion and Overall Reserve Grand Champion with her percentage Boer Doe, Jodee. Our son, Peyton is 2 and is an up and coming 4-H'er. He likes to go out to the pasture and say "Gotta get the goats" or "Where's the goats?"

Dustin was born and raised in Idaho and has cowboyed all his life. At one point he was the breeding coordinator for the Nez Perce tribe in Lewiston, Idaho and created the Nez Perce Sikum. He has ramrodded multiple ranches in Idaho, Montana, Washington and Michigan. He has been around and dealt with livestock his whole life. He has a true passion for animals in general and an overall love for the open range. He is currently employed at the Idaho National Laboratory.

Amanda was born and raised in Michigan. I had the opportunity to live in Utah for about a year, which is when I developed a true love for the west. I relocated back to Michigan and was working at the Double JJ Ranch and Golf Resort, located near Lake Michigan, which is where Dustin and I met. I have a true love for horses and animals in general along with the outdoors. I guess you could say that horses are what brought Dustin and I together. Neither one of us were quite fond of the humidity of Michigan so when he was ready to head back west for home, I was more than happy to accompany him. I already knew that I loved the west and wanted to live there, finding my best friend and soul mate that was from there was an added bonus that took no debating on the decision. So we packed up and headed back west to Idaho, where we call home.

We bought our home about 2 years ago with the intention of the barn and 5 acres being put to use for our horses. The acreage was quite overrun with weeds, so we had the bright idea of buying a few goats for weed eaters. Our friends and neighbors had goats and we often times would sit on the back porch and watch them frolic and play and thought they looked like fun. So began our journey. We bought two, then two more. It was about that time Lori mentioned she thought she would like to do 4-H with the goats. We started looking for show quality goats and researching exactly what was a show quality goat, that’s how we found the Boer Goats. At that point we needed to get registration papers for a few that we bought and had to contact the previous owners. It was then that we really got introduced to the beauty of the Boers and also our now extended family. We have had the true pleasure and rare opportunity to come across two of the most devoted and caring people one can only hope to find, Garth and Ruthelda Holm of Shelley, Idaho.

We bought two more, (apparently we like to buy in pairs), and then a couple more. As we added to our herd goat by goat, it dawned on me once our herd reached about 8 does that this so called 4-H project had developed into something more that just that. Dustin is the one that first fell head over heels in love with the Boers. In fact it got to the point where I wouldn’t let him go anywhere by himself or he would roll in the driveway with more each time he came home! Well, let me tell you that didn’t work either! I would go with him and we would come home with more than just one or two! I couldn’t blame him; the Boers are a very personable animal with a great personality. The more time that I spent with them the more I loved them. I joke that my beautiful paint doe, Tipper is like my dog! Dustin only lets me have one so called “pet”. We have bought goats from different people in the industry and have met and made friends with a lot of wonderful people. It becomes addictive!  We sure have enjoyed the Boer Goats, whether it is for commercial or show. Thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way! We look forward to meeting new people in the future and sharing our stories and knowledge with anyone who is interested or curious. Stop by or call anytime, we love to talk goat!
